Where Unity Within Community Comes Together

Picture

Sacred Circle Farm welcomes you to its official website.  I would like to invite you to browse the pages and hopefully discover how you and your loved ones can also benefit from the many opportunities this little community farm has to offer.

The farm is nestled away in a beautiful rural valley by the ocean just minutes from the outskirts of Sooke, BC.
Sacred Circle Farm works hard to serve the community.  Its gates are kept open for everyone's enjoyment with the hope of making the world a little better place for all creatures, great and small.

Sacred Circle Farm does not receive government grants or public funding, of any kind, to support its vision.  The farm depends solely upon the proceeds from farm gate sales and private donations to care for the rescue animals that work on the farm and continue to provide beneficial community services for everyone.

Sacred Circle Farm has come a long way since its humble beginnings with the rescue of a single horse, back in 2008.  It absolutely amazes me how so many folks have stepped up and helped over the years.  All the improvements to the farm were made possible by donated building materials, tireless dedication of hard working volunteers and financial gifts from generous individuals.

Because of their contributions, Sacred Circle Farm has been able to help several folks regain personal stability so they could focus their lives in positive directions.  One former resident is now studying to become a community doctor!  Many have given back by returning to the farm as volunteers themselves, while others actively pay it forward within their own communities.

Because of their contributions, several animals were saved from certain death.  The rescued heritage herd of Saanen dairy goats and older laying hens now produce wholesome products that are sold to the community.  The income from these sales helps Sacred Circle Farm continue to operate for everyone's benefit.  Additionally, many of the rescue animals participate in educational  and therapeutic programs that are now available to the community.

Because of their contributions, Sacred Circle Farm's gates are open to the public, which helps to create a sense of awareness within our community for rapidly vanishing farmlands and rural lifestyles.  Programs like farm mentorship, help to secure the future of our local food resources by providing apprentice farmers with opportunities to learn valuable  agriculture skills in a real life setting.  Many of these folks have gone on to start farms of their own.

Because of their contributions, boys and girls have enjoyed positive experiences while visiting the farm, which left lasting impressions on them.  Many parents have told me that their children would never have known what a real farm was like if it hadn't been for the Sacred Circle Farm visiting program.

Without the contributions of these wonderful folks, none of the opportunities and benefits that Sacred Circle Farm offers would have been possible.  It was their selfless acts of generosity that made the dream of unity within community a reality and is living proof that angels truly do walk amongst us.

While you're visiting the site, please take a moment to introduce yourself in the guest book or leave a testimonial if you've already enjoyed a visit to the farm.   Take a look at the Sacred Circle Farm Angel List on the Special Thanks page too because angels disguised as ordinary folk visit this little farm all the time so you might be surprised at whose name you'll find on it ... maybe even your own!

It's my belief, that someone's respect should be earned and not expected.  I also believe that to accomplish this, one must hold themselves accountable for their daily actions, while standing within their integrity.

Truth be told, I'd rather Sacred Circle Farm receive a hand up from folks than depend on handouts.  I appreciate everyone's support.  When Sacred Circle Farm benefits from the  generous actions of others, I feel it's important to pay it forward by being of service to the community and giving back through acts of kindness.

In addition to giving sanctuary to threatened animals, the farm sells ethically raised, wholesome farm products.  After recovering from horrendous neglect, the rescued herd of Saanen dairy goats now lives contentedly on Sacred Circle Farm and gives gallons of fresh, sweet milk on a daily basis.

The farm also sells honest free range eggs from its resident flock of older laying hens that came from farms focused on profit.  Many of these birds were rescued from cramped, filthy conditions where they were jammed in like sardines and forced to mass produce until their bodies gave out.  Today, they have complete freedom and contentedly forage for natural foods from sun up to sun down.

I use the proceeds from gate sales to provide continual care for the rescue animals.  The money is also used to establish community programs and develop the farm for everyone's benefit.

All of us at Sacred Circle Farm work hard to help ourselves and serve our community.  Even the animals chip in to help themselves and others!

The animals on the farm are working partners in  the farm visit program, which educates the public about the many benefits of small scale farming and ethical practices.  They also provide apprentice farmers in the mentorship program with valuable hands on learning experiences.

These programs also create awareness for the urgent need to take immediate steps to secure local food resources through preservation of  rapidly vanishing farmlands.  In addition, Sacred Circle Farm is an active supporter of habitat conservation and projects focused on enhancement of green belt areas for local wildlife.

Some of the rehabilitated animals help others through pet assisted therapy ... mind you, they don't mind all the extra love and attention that is lavished on them by the wonderful folks who attend these visits.

In all honesty, it's the animals living at Sacred Circle Farm that do the lion's share of the work and it's humbling to witness how very little they ask for in return.  All they want is a roof over their heads and a bowl of food or a few flakes of hay at the end of the day ... Sometimes it's just the simple gesture of a loving pat on the head that makes them happy.

These wonderful animals work very hard to help others and do so much for their community.  Wouldn't it be great to return the favour and help them for a change, folks?

Before leaving, please consider making a small financial gift to give Sacred Circle Farm a much needed hand up.  Your generous support will help to make a huge difference in the quality of life for this wonderful group of very deserving rescue animals.

A Before & After Rescue Story

Freckles the Smiling Goat ~ Before & After

April 2010
Sacred Circle Farm rescued a heritage herd of Saanen dairy goats from certain death in June of 2009. They arrived starved and very sick from neglect by the people who had taken over the life of the herd's 101 year old owner.

Freckles is a member of the herd and the picture on the left shows the terrible condition she was in just days after she was rescued.  Bloated with worms, her ribs and hip bones were protruding from severe malnutrition and her coat was covered with blood sucking lice.  To make matters worse, Freckles was also suffering from pneumonia.

Many wondered if Freckles would survive such serious health issues and there were doubts she would fully recover even if she did live.  She received a series of antibiotics and was monitored around the clock for months.  Freckles' health eventually recovered with treatment and daily walks through the forest to browse on wild forage.

To the left are several before and after pictures of Freckles.  When I look at the top left photo, it often gives me cause to reflect on her uphill battle to stay alive.   In my twenty plus years of animal rescue, I've never encountered a creature with such a strong will to survive.  However, the worst is behind  her now.  Today, Freckles is a pleasantly plump goat enjoying life to the fullest ... The look on her face says it all!
Picture
Freckles spends most of her time up on the hill that overlooks her new home basking in  the sun with a look of sheer joy on her face while she lazily chews her cud.  She rarely leaves her lookout post unless farm visitors arrive ...  or food is involved.

When children visit, Freckles will often say hello to them with a gentle nudge and sweet little smile on her face.  She's now affectionately called Freckles the Smiling Goat and is known as the goodwill ambassador of  Sacred Circle Farm.

"We are all here on this planet, as it were, as tourists. None of us can live here forever. The longest we might live is a hundred years. So while we are here we should try to have a good heart and to make something positive and useful of our lives. Whether we live just a few years or a whole century, it would be truly regrettable and sad if we were to spend that time aggravating the problems that afflict other people, animals and the environment. The most important thing is to be a good human being."
